Privacy Policy

Introduction

Insights (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our users (“you,” “your”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and your rights under applicable laws. Insights operates in the US and India and complies with US privacy laws (including COPPA and CCPA) and Indian laws (Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules) where applicable. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13; users must be at least 13 years old to use the app.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide when registering and using the app. Mandatory fields include your name, email address, bio, and profile image. You may also provide additional data if required by third-party events (e.g. contact details, profile, preferences). We collect user-generated content such as posts, comments, votes, and any information you submit in learning content or event registration. We also collect non-personal data automatically, such as usage logs, device or browser information, and analytics data to improve our services. All collected data is necessary to operate the service and personalize your experience.

Personal Data

Name, email, profile image, bio/description, and any event-specific details (e.g. phone number, organization) you voluntarily provide.

User Content

Comments, ratings, questions, and learning materials you upload or post.

Usage Data

Log data such as pages or features visited, login time, IP address, device type, and cookies or similar tracking technologies if used for analytics.

How We Use Your Information

We use your data to operate and improve the Insights app. Common uses include:

  • Provision of Services: To create and manage your account, personalize content (including recommended learning materials or events), and enable social features (following, commenting, voting).
  • Communication: To send you service-related emails or notifications (e.g. account updates, reminders, support messages). You may opt out of marketing communications at any time.
  • Events: To coordinate events you join. If you register for a third-party event, we will share only the necessary data (e.g. your name and email) with the event host to facilitate your participation.
  • Analytics: To analyze usage patterns and improve the app’s functionality and user experience. We may use analytics services to understand how users interact with the app.
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with legal obligations, enforce our terms and policies, and protect our rights and the rights of other users. For example, we may use information to respond to lawful requests by public authorities or to detect and prevent fraud and abuse.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Insights does not sell your personal information to third parties. We share information only as described below:

  • With Other Users: Content you post (learning materials, comments, votes) is visible to other users according to the app’s functionality (for example, followers or event participants). Your profile name and image are public in your activities.
  • With Service Providers: We may share data with vendors and service providers that support our business (such as hosting providers, email or SMS services, analytics providers). These parties are obligated to protect your data and may only use it for the services they perform for us.
  • With Event Organizers: For events facilitated or organized through Insights, we share the minimum required user information with the organizing third party (for example, name and email) so you can participate. Each event may have its own policies. Insights is not responsible for how third-party organizers use or protect your data.
  • For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law enforcement, to comply with legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent illegal activities, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Insights, our users, or others.
  • Business Transfers: In the event that Insights is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you if your information is to be transferred in such a case and become subject to a different privacy policy.

Cookies and Tracking

The Insights app is primarily mobile-based; however, we may use cookies or similar technologies via our website or app analytics. These technologies help us gather usage statistics and remember your preferences. You can control or disable cookies through your device settings, but disabling them may affect app functionality.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information. For example, we use encryption, access controls, and firewalls to safeguard data. Nevertheless, no system is perfectly secure. Insights cannot guarantee absolute protection against unauthorized access, hacking, or data loss. In India, the IT Act requires reasonable security practices to protect personal data; failure to do so can result in penalties. We strive to comply with these requirements, and in the US we follow FTC and state guidelines for data protection.

Data Retention

We keep your personal data as long as needed to provide the service or comply with legal obligations. If you close your account or request deletion, we will remove your personal data from our active database, except where retention is required by law. Some anonymized or aggregated data may be retained for analysis.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your data. For California residents, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and its amendment (CPRA) provide specific rights:

  • Right to Know: You can request disclosure of the personal information we have collected about you and how we use it.
  • Right to Delete: You can request that we delete your personal data, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: Under CPRA, you may ask us to correct inaccurate personal information we have about you.
  • Right to Limit: Under CPRA, you can limit the use and disclosure of your “sensitive” personal information (e.g., financial data, precise geolocation).
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: You may request that we not sell or share your personal information. (Note: Insights does not currently sell or share personal data for commercial purposes, but California law provides this right.)
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: You may not be denied services or charged a different price for exercising your privacy rights.

To exercise any of these rights, California residents can contact us (see “Contact Us” below). For users in India and other locations, we will comply with local laws, which currently include the IT Act and any applicable rules (e.g. 2021 Intermediary Rules). In India, unauthorized disclosure of personal information can lead to civil penalties; we take steps to comply with these laws.

Children`'`s Privacy

Insights is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from users under 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it as soon as possible. Parents or guardians who believe their child under 13 has an account should contact us to have the account removed..

Third-Party Services and Links

The app may contain links to third-party sites or integrate third-party services in the future (e.g., payment processors, social networks). These services have their own privacy practices which are not covered by this policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will revise the “Last Updated” date and notify you (for example, by email or in-app notification). We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Insights after changes have been posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
